Description

The Solar Program Director presents formal education and training classes to all students in the Solar Technician program. Classes will consist of both theory and practical laboratory applications. This position is responsible for creating and sustaining an environment of academic and professional excellence as well as contributing directly to an environment of student/instructor satisfaction and academic excellence.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Teach a minimum of one course in the program
  • Participation in short and long-range planning and evaluation for facilities design related to programming, equipment, instructional, and staffing needs
  • Coordinate, manage, collaborate, and solve problems to attain educational goals
  • Oversee and attend all scheduled boot camps
  • Serve as a liaison for students with Administration
  • Serve on the Program Review Committee and coordinate the program review process for the Solar Technician program
  • Provide instructional leadership for the program
  • Facilitates community relations as appropriate
  • Facilitate two-way communication between program faculty, Director of Education, and other personnel as appropriate
  • Collaborates with appropriate faculty to prepare the class schedule within the specified timelines
  • Evaluates the viability of new program/course requests and modifications of existing
    courses/programs as requested by the program faculty
  • Consults with the administration and program faculty on curriculum, course, textbook selection, and other program matters
  • Coordinates the articulation of program disciplines with secondary schools and institutions
    of higher education
  • Supports the development of objectives and outline for all course material, including the content for new and revised courses/programs by program faculty
  • Maintains a file of current master syllabi for all instructors in all classes
  • Performs the evaluation of program faculty following established policy
  • Fosters faculty and staff development and professional growth.
  • Assumes responsibility for keeping faculty informed about institutional matters.
  • Reports personnel absences to the appropriate Director of Education.
  • Participates in the informal resolution of conflicts between students and faculty
  • Assumes responsibility for keeping faculty and staff informed
  • Assists the Director of Education during the first week of instruction in the coordination of
    normal first-week activities; i.e., room changes, last-minute instructor no-shows, aiding
    students, etc., for all courses delivered under the program’s purview.
  • Teach courses as assigned
  • Provide curriculum development support for new programs and courses
  • All other duties as assigned


Requirements

  • Three (3) to Five (5) years of increasing responsibility in the field of Solar installation and repair
  • Experience and knowledge of OSHA
  • NABCEP Photovoltaic (PV) and Solar Heating (SH) certified or a combination of education and experience
  • A proven record of working successfully with diverse populations
  • A positive attitude and ability to plan and adapt to change
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with college departments and cross-functional teams
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
